Welcome to Contemporary Woodturning

We hope you will enjoy looking at the galleries of our work.

One idea behind the website is to introduce more people to woodturning as an art form.  However, the basic premise is commercial - offer artwork for purchase.  We can all go to a furniture store and buy production turnings - almost like buying a gallon of milk at Safeway.  Made with CNC machines - these are functional forms, no question about that.  Viewed as a piece of artwork - not hardly.  .

Woodturners spend hours working on their art pieces.  From wood selection to the final finish; the process may take weeks, even months for just a single piece.  The wood may be as close as your backyard firewood pile or from as far away as Africa or South America.

Next time you look at a wood pile - rather than thinking about it as just so much firewood -  think of it as the beginning of a piece of art.  By the way, all is not wasted when you turn.  By-products of turning include boxes, pens, bottle stops - limited only by one's imagination.  Of course, the shavings you see make great firestarter or contribution to the compost pile.

If you see an item that has previously been sold but would like something similar please let me know and we will do our best to accommodate.
